Lauren Chapple-Love '07 CONNECTING THE "WHY" WITH "HOW CAN I HELP?" As a 16-year-old, growing up in Northern Illinois surrounded by stacks of true crime books, Lauren Chapple-Love '07 had more than just an inkling that a career in forensic psychology was her calling. "My mother was an avid reader of true crime series and it made me ask the questions: 'Why? What makes a person engage in something violent toward someone else?'" After earning her degree in forensic psychology at Bay Path, Dr. Chapple-Love went on to graduate school at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and earned a PhD in counseling psychology at the University of North Dakota. Her studies and the professional opportunities have given her a vast and varied perspective on criminal behavior, substance abuse, incarceration and rehabilitation. Today, Dr. Chapple-Love serves as president of the Nevada Psychological Association, where she focuses on providing community mental healthcare, while advocating for systemic changes to the ways mental healthcare is accessed and experienced. "For her entire life, my mother was extremely involved in Bay Path, and she said, 'I want to keep that.' So, the jacket went to assisted living with my parents, and then when they moved out of assisted living and into an apartment with 24/7 care, the jacket went with them again. Since then, Mom's had to move to a nursing home, and it just didn't make sense to bring the jacket. I talked to my brothers and sisters and suggested we donate it to Bay Path, and they said, 'absolutely.'" After graduating from Bay Path, Dottie McGovern raised four children and enjoyed a long career as a secretary before retiring from the Enfield school district. She is a grandmother of 11, a great-grandmother of four and has one great-great grandchild. A fervent, consistent supporter of Bay Path, McGovern regularly attended alumni events and Bay Path plays and served on the Board of Trustees. McGovern still resides in Enfield, Connecticut. Lawson graduated from Bay Path in 1999 as valedictorian of the first class of Bay Path's One Day program.
