14 Bay Pathway Spring 2017 Three New Trustees Named to BPU Board Three new board members have been elected to the Bay Path University Board of Trustees. Each will serve a three-year term which began June 2016. Mary Bushnell, born in West Hartford, Connecticut, is a 1974 graduate of Bay Path. She and her husband, David, have been generous donors to Bay Path University for 30 years, with their philanthropy having a particular focus on student scholarship. In 2005, Bushnell served as co-chair to kick off the Carol A. Leary Endowed Scholarship Fund for First Generation Students. Their support of Bay Path's "Charting New Path's" campaign was instrumental in launching The American Women's College, Bay Path's online degree completion program. The Bushnells have two sons and live in Short Hills, NJ, and Savannah, GA. Bushnell has served on many boards over the past 30 years, recently completing her tenure of eight years on the board of the Overlook Foundation, which raises funds for the Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey. Martin M. Caine is a principal at Wolf & Company, P.C. in Springfield, Massachusetts. He has over 25 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant, providing audit and advisory services to business owners, executives and boards of directors. Caine's advisory services include consulting on internal control compliance, acquisitions and divestitures, due diligence, and compensation matters. His industry experience encompasses financial institutions, manufacturing and distribution, and not-for-profit entities. Caine is a frequent speaker on financial topics, particularly in his areas of expertise, accounting and auditing. An alumni of Cathedral High School, he is a 1986 graduate of Western New England University and is a CPA in both Massachusetts and Connecticut. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, and serves on the Board of Advisors at Valley Venture Mentors, Inc. Caine and his wife, Laura, live in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, with their two children. Andrew M. Davis is the President and Managing Partner of Chestnut Realty Management, LLC, located in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is responsible for the underwriting and financing of new transactions for the firm's investment strategies. Prior to forming Chestnut Realty Partners, Davis spent three years with Wallace Capital, managing underwriting in their Florida office and originating bridge real estate loans, six years at PVI Capital, LLC, a private commercial lender specializing in short-term bridge financing, and five years managing residential acquisitions for GFI Partners, a production builder and real estate development company. A 2001 graduate of St. Michael's College, he is a former board member of HAP Housing and serves as Chapter Forum Officer for YPO (Young Presidents' Organization). He and his wife, Lauren, have three children, and they reside in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Faculty Updates Provost Dr. Melissa Morriss-Olson was a recent lead presenter at the national Academic Impressions (AI) conference: Strategies for Developing New Academic Programs. The conference addressed topics including disruption in higher education, new academic program development, and innovation—topics that Morriss-Olson frequently writes about for the publication. Professor Leanna James Blackwell, Director, MFA in Creative Nonfiction, presented on a panel about women who direct creative programs during the February 2017 Associated Writers and Writing Programs Conference in Washington, D.C., where Professor Suzanne Strempek Shea, along with fall '17 visiting writer Elizabeth Searle, gave a talk on literary adaptation. At the 13th Annual Connecticut Association for Behavior Analysis Conference, ABA program director Dr. Susan Ainsleigh and faculty members Melissa Hunsinger-Harris, Kimberly Levy, and Kristen Serwecki gave presentations concerning behavioral skills training, as well as how to teach water safety using a behavioral treatment package. Dr. Courtney Patrick-Weber, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition has had another article published, this time in Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy. Professor Janine Fondon, chair of the Undergraduate Com- munications Department and Assistant Professor of Undergraduate Communications, has recently been published in BusinessWest. Her piece, "Moving Beyond Diversity to Inclusion" offers some history on the subject of diversity and inclusion, as well as action items for businesses striving to improve in this area as we advance into 2020.
