'Joanne' left a note thanking me for the magazines—she has always dreamed of having her own horse. I wrote an addendum to her note and left it for her: 'Dear Joanne: I once had your dream. Now, 58 years later, I have owned 100 horses—call me.' I'll invite her to our gorgeous farm to meet our Miniature Horses and Welsh Ponies. I even had my horse off campus when I was at Bay Path (Dean Wright made an exception and let me have my car on campus—ah, the 60's!) What does a retired Bay Path graduate do? I registered a miniature horse foal that was born here last year as 'Hilarious Harry.' I sent a note to the girls at the registry telling them how he got his name. They called and asked if I would write a series of stories about Harry as he grows up for their prestigious magazine, The Journal. The first story contains my bio pre-Bay Path, during Bay Path, and post-Bay Path (BPJC was a major building block of my success). Of course, one of the drawbacks of having to write one of these stories is NOW I have to KEEP the little devil! No, old Bay Path grads do not fade away. Some of us are too busy 'cleaning up' the barn for that! (I've owned horses for 58 years, bred them for 30, and had them on my own property for 40 years. Forty years of 'cleaning up' after them! (At our peak in Hadley, we had 32 horses. I do ALL the work—no hired help). That's a lot of 'cleaning up,' and to think Dean Conrad wouldn't let us wear blue jeans—now that's my nation- al dress! I met Prince Charles in 1974 when I owned a lot of formal gowns— now I don't own ONE dress! I hope to make my 50th reunion, but that all depends on the horses. (I've only had two vacations in the last 25 years!) Sometimes you'll hear my husband muttering under his breath. If you get close enough, you'll hear he's saying: 'Horses, ALWAYS Horses' (He's lucky I didn't want kids). I take pride in Bay Path. You are forward thinking and are staying on the cutting edge. Do you remember that the library was formerly my best friend's Christian Science Church? (Or has THAT changed?!) My warm regards to you all." Deborah continues to sell world champion quality miniature horses while enjoying nature on their 47-acre farm. The farm has its own deer herd, turkey flock, great horned owls, coyotes, bobcats, etc. They love the mild four-season climate in Tennessee, but miss the sensible, self-reliant New Englanders! 1976 Kathryn Hayward welcomed the birth of her new granddaughter, Carmen Gabriele Baldwin on August 23, 2013. Carmen's parents are Hilaria and noted actor and comedian, Alec Baldwin. Carmen's great-grandfather, Charles Hayward, taught art at Bay Path for many years. 1977 Kathy Phau Caputo Class Agent 25 Mtn.
