38 Bay Pathway Spring/Summer 2019 Back in the Saddle Kara Noble G'18 "I'm pursuing an author's life that combines my two favorite passions: writing and horses. My main gig is with Quarterly: The Icelandic Horse magazine. When I was in the MFA program at Bay Path, I wanted to practice the skills I was studying. I went to Icelandic Horse and they accepted a couple of my articles for the magazine. After I graduated, they asked if I wanted to join their editorial board. Of course, as a proud owner of two Icelandic horses, I said 'Yes!' Now, I'm a regular writer and columnist for the magazine. I can't tell you how exciting it is to see your work published." The story doesn't stop here! Go to www.baypath.edu/baypathway to learn how Kara is pursuing a writing life with her other projects, what makes the Icelandic horse one of the most unique equine breeds in the world, and how Kara participated in a dramatic Icelandic horse rescue. Equal Rights for Women Carol Soutra Quinn '63 "I've stayed connected to Bay Path all these years because I believe in Bay Path's mission and long-term commitment to women's education and programs offered to pursue higher degrees in a variety of courses, for employment opportunities for women. I have been, in my own way, an equal rights propo- nent for women. I've seen a lot of changes, but we still have a ways to go." The story doesn't stop here! Go to www.baypath.edu/baypathway to learn how Carol Quinn is using what she learned at Bay Path in her daily life. Building Community Bethany Young G'18 MS IN APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS DIRECTOR OF KEHILLAH, SPRINGFIELD JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER "One of my favorite programs is our Summer Camp. The program is eight weeks long and is fully inclusive, meaning children of all abilities can attend camp. For each new family, I do an intake with the parent and child. They often point out the things that their child cannot do and their hesitation shows. I encourage them to give camp a try, pointing out all of the supports that we have in place. Initially, some par- ents are skeptical. But through the camp experience, the child might make friends or learn a new skill. I watch the parents and observe their reactions when they see their children are doing more than what was expected. It becomes very emotional for the parents. It doesn't get old." The story doesn't stop here! Go to www.baypath.edu/baypathway to learn how Bethany, a 2018 recipient of the BusinessWest 40 Under 40 award, lives the mission of Kehillah (derived from the Hebrew word for community) by overseeing quality social and recreational enrichment programs for children, teens, and adults with social challenges, cognitive delays, and physical limitations. a l u M n i p r o f i l e s
